As it is evident, industrial coatings are a notch higher in quality than the average paints available at hardware stores. Similarly, military coatings are further up a step in quality than industrial coatings. Meanwhile, superior quality for military requirements is for keeping the troops and their equipment safe. Safety for the military is of primary importance in hostile and rigorous conditions.

America’s military is not just expected to be the best; it has to be the best. So, to ensure this, not just the people in uniform but also their equipment has to perform at their best levels. As such, before finding a military specification coating supplier, you should know the basic requirements.

    Military Specification Coating

Adherence to strict requirements for preventing corrosion and improving the durability of military equipment is essential. As such, while camouflage helps in protection, durable equipment can better protect it from harsh weather and the impact of rigorous duty. Moreover, military specifications coating greatly reduces the need for frequent maintenance and repairs. This, in turn, extends the life span of the equipment.

Another striking difference between military-specific and industrial coating is its resistance to chemical warfare. Military specification coatings are CARC or Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings. Being tough and non-porous, these coatings are resistant to biological, chemical, and even radioactive weaponry.

In the absence of such coating, these weaponry elements can contaminate the insides as they penetrate the outer layer. As such, CARC coatings can prevent dangerous components from seeping through and stop them on the surface. These elements can then be washed off.

The features of CARC coatings are:

    • VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) -free and environmentally friendly
    • Zero emissions
    • Solvent-free
    • Excellent durability
    • Protection from Corrosion
    • Consistency across batches
    • Can be recycled
    • Long life cycle
    • Low maintenance costs

CARC is a relatively recent development in military-grade coating technology implemented in 1985. As such, only a few suppliers carry the license to produce CARC coatings.

    Other Coating Specifications

Besides CARC, there are other military-grade coating specifications. Some of these are:

Anodizing (Sulfuric and Chromic) – These coatings aim to reduce surface corrosion and prevent it in severe weather conditions.

Black Oxide Coating – This uniform coating is most commonly used on ferrous metals. It decreases the reflection of the light. However, it provides only limited protection against corrosion.

Phosphate Coating – This is for low and medium alloy steels, and it provides resistance to corrosion.

Effects of Temperature on Military Grade Coating

Coating disintegrates into multiple parts when the temperature drops too low. However, this can be reversed by reheating the coating. Meanwhile, if the paint has to go through the cooling and heating cycle too often, the quality might get compromised. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a consistent temperature while storing the coating.

CARC coating and camouflage are crucial elements while on the battlefield. When the lives of the military are on the line, it is essential to provide them with the highest standard equipment, as this contributes to their performance while ensuring their safety.

Thins coating standard has the highest quality of dyes and prevents corrosion. So, to find a military specification coating supplier, check out their multiple products before selecting one.

And now that you know the reasons to get military specification coating, make the best decision as per your needs.
