Polished plaster, also called “Venetian Gloss”, is a coating technique that uses spatula applied stucco layers creating a smooth surface with a Venetian-style relief effect, shiny and soft to the touch. It was invented in Venice (Italy) at the beginning of the 15th century, being the Venetian master decorators of the Renaissance who give it maximum expression and beauty.

It is a natural material that is produced by hand with the help of low speed plastering machines, with materials such as plaster, flax oil and water. Although currently synthetic is applied more for its comfort, we continue to recommend natural mainly because synthetic acquires an appearance of simple flat lacquered paint , while natural with an average thickness of about two millimeters, gives us the beautiful texture of leather and it acquires a marble aspect.

    Steps to apply polished plaster

    1. Protect with bodybuilder tape

Protect all skirting boards, plugs, switches… with body builder tape so they don’t get stained.

    1. Repair the walls

Sand the walls and repair any possible cracks and irregularities before applying the stucco. Otherwise, all faults, cracks and irregularities will be seen once the stucco has been applied.

    1. Apply a first coat of polished plaster

Apply a first layer of polished plaster, always trying to make it as uniform as possible (a trick is to do it in small semicircles). If you leave a thicker area, try to remove it with the spatula.
